Conference on Regional Trade Agreements, Migration, and Remittances

The Department of Economics and International Business, in collaboration with the Gibson D Lewis Center for Business Research and Economic Development (CBED) at the College of Business Administration, Sam Houston State University, is organizing the Conference on Regional Trade Agreements, Migration, and Remittances with Special Focus on CAFTA and Latin America to be held on April 12-13, 2008. The conference highlights include the keynote speech by Dr. Mauricio Cárdenas, currently the Executive Director of Fedesarrollo, an independent policy-oriented research center in Bogotá, Colombia, who was the Minister of Economic Development and the Minister of Transportation in Colombia in the 1990s, and was named one the Leaders of the New Millennium by CNN/Time Magazine in 1999; invited lectures by Dr. Pia Orrenius of Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Dr. Susan Pozo of Western Michigan University, and Dr. Kamal Saggi of Southern Methodist University, who have extensive research and policy experience; and a panel discussion by the Consul Generals of Mexico, Costa Rica, and Colombia. In addition, researchers from around the U.S. and from several foreign countries will present their papers at the conference.
