Established in 1879 as a training institute for public school teachers, Sam Houston State University has grown to five separate academic colleges and nearly 16,000 students. The main campus is located in Huntsville, Texas – just 70 miles north of Houston – and offers the friendly environment of a small town combined with proximity to the conveniences of a large metropolitan area.

Sam Houston State University student enrollment for Fall 2006 by gender was 41% male and 59% female. By ethnicity, the student body was 72% white, 13% black, 12% Hispanic, and 1% for other classifications. The campus is growing more diverse: since the previous year, enrollment for white students increased 2%, for black students 4%, American Indian students 17%, Hispanic students 10%, Asian/Pacific Islander students 6%, and international students 19%. 

Fall 2006 enrollment at the College of Business Administration totalled 3,231 students, an increase of 6% over the previous academic year. 

The College of Business Administration is fully accredited by AACSB International, the world’s most prestigious accreditation for business schools. The College employs 60 full-time business faculty members, all with impressive teaching and research credentials.
